Elizabeth B. McDermid, BS, CPhT is a Pharmacy Technician Operations Supervisor at Children's Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO. Born and raised in rural Alaska, Elizabeth moved to Denver to pursue her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Denver. After graduating, she attended Front Range Community College (FRCC) where she was invited to join the National Society of Leadership and Success and subsequently earned her PTCB certification. While working as a frontline pharmacy technician, Elizabeth returned to FRCC to begin her teaching career. During her tenure, she played an integral role in the initial development of the pharmacy technician apprenticeship program. Serving as the primary instructor for community and institutional pharmacy, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical mathematics, she was honored to receive the student nominated Teaching Excellence Award. Meanwhile, at Children’s, Elizabeth transitioned into a newly developed role of Pharmacy Technician Operations Supervisor. She continues to partner with FRCC by hiring apprenticeship students and was elected Chair of the Advisory Board. She enjoys supporting fellow pharmacy staff, optimizing operational workflows, utilizing automated dispensing technology, and analyzing data for process improvement. As an ASHP member, Elizabeth is passionate about actively seeking opportunities to expand her knowledge and assist pharmacy technicians in their career development. In her spare time, she loves playing with her dog, Remmy, and exploring the outdoors.
