Dr. Haley Pals is a psychiatric Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner for the Tomah VA Medical Center in Tomah, Wisconsin. She completed her PGY1 residency through University of Minnesota's Ambulatory Care program and her PGY2 Psychiatric residency at the William S. Middleton VA in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Pals is the primary prescriber of the outpatient Addiction Treatment Program using a scope of practice that allows prescribing medications, including controlled substances. Her collaborative practice model for buprenorphine management has been published and won an "Innovative Practice" award from the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP) in 2022. Upon removal of the X-waiver, Dr. Pals was able to be one of the first VA pharmacists to prescribe buprenorphine for her patients. She acts as a Co-Lead of the AAPP Substance Use Disorders (SUD) Community, a Subject Matter Expert for the national VA Clinical Pharmacy Practice Office Mental Health Workgroup, and a Co-Lead for their Practice Advancement subgroup. In her practice site, she is on the Trauma Informed Care Committee and works to advocate for harm reduction supplies and expansion of SUD treatment access throughout all practice areas.
