Brian L. Erstad, Pharm.D., MCCM, FASHP, FCCP, BCPS is a tenured Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the R. Ken Coit University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. He is co-director for the Arizona Clinical and Translational Research Graduate Certificate Program. Dr. Erstad has been the program director for 25 critical care residents and fellows at the Arizona Health Sciences Center and has precepted numerous students and residents. Dr. Erstad’s research interests pertain to critical care medicine with an emphasis on patient safety and related outcomes’ research - he has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, monographs, and book chapters. Additionally, he is the sole editor of the textbook titled Critical Care Pharmacotherapy. He has served on numerous committees and task forces for other organizations including ASHP, ACCP, BPS, AHRQ, USP, the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American College of Chest Physicians, and the American College of Surgeons. With respect to teaching and clinical activities, Dr. Erstad is a recipient of the AACP Robert K. Chalmers Distinguished Educator Award, an AACP Innovations in Teaching Award, the ACCP Clinical Practice and Educator Awards, a Master of Critical Care Medicine designation from SCCM, and was the first pharmacist to receive SCCM’s Master Clinician/Teacher Excellence Award and ASHP’s Preceptor Award.
