Dr. Michael Claro Dejos is the System Medication Safety Officer of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in Memphis, TN and holds a faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee as assistant professor. He has received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, where he developed his strong interest in medication safety and quality improvement. After receiving his degree, he completed a pharmacy residency at Penn State Health - St. Joseph Medical Center and a medication-use safety residency at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition to completing the executive MBA at Vanderbilt University's Owen Graduate School of Management, Mike has completed various leadership and quality improvement programs, including Villanova University’s Master Certificate in Six Sigma – Healthcare as well as the ASHP Pharmacy Leadership Academy.
At Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Mike leads the System Medication Safety Committee, overseeing the organization’s medication safety metrics, the implementation of system-wide medication error reduction strategies, and other medication-related quality improvement activities. On a national level, Mike is past chairman of the Medication Safety Section Advisory Group of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In addition, he has served as an expert advisor with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices for a number of resources and guidelines. His research and practice interests include system-level error reduction strategies, medication event detection, and change management.
