Kieu-Loan M. Vu earned Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences, Philadelphia, PA. (currently, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, St. Joseph’s University.)
Dr. Vu served as an Adjunct Pharmacy Practice Professor at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Sciences from 2000-2003 and later graduated from Saint Joseph’s University, Philadelphia, PA with a Masters of Business Administration degree through its Executive MBA Program.
During the past 27 years, Dr. Vu has spent substantially all her professional career in community and teaching hospitals ranging from 100 to 400 beds. Dr. Vu began as a clinical pharmacist and progressed to become the assistant pharmacy director and then director of pharmacy. Currently, she is the Pharmacy Service Chief at a Medical Center in Delaware. She enjoys working with diverse stakeholders to organize, plan and execute detailed plans with a special interest in strategically leveraging automation for operating efficiency, employee and patient safety. Throughout her career, Dr. Vu’s foundational principles have been and continue to be: always do whatever is best for the patient, driving change; and continuous process improvement.
Today, she is sharing with us how her pharmacy team has gone beyond the USP 800 requirement to ensure the safety of employees handling the hazardous drugs at the bedside.
