Sarah M. Gaffney, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, is the Division Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for the HealthTrust Supply Chain - HCA Capital Division, based in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Gaffney received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh and subsequently completed both a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency and a PGY-2 Adult Internal Medicine Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Gaffney received her MBA from Averett University.
Dr. Gaffney oversees the implementation and maintenance of clinical pharmacy programs including formulary management and standardization, drug utilization evaluations, IV pump compliance and standardization, and antimicrobial stewardship at 18 different hospitals spanning three states. Her previous leadership experience includes Director of Pharmacy, Assistant Director of Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacy Residency Program Administrator and Director, and Clinical Pharmacy Specialist. Dr. Gaffney’s clinical experience includes general cardiology, cardiac ICU, and cardiothoracic surgery ICU patient populations. She has given multiple pharmacotherapeutic lectures at local, state, and national conferences and has published several articles. In 2012, she proudly won the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacy Clinical Pharmacy Practice Achievement Award. Dr. Gaffney is active in VSHP serving on several committees. She participates in both student and resident rotations and built a robust pharmacy student intern program at her previous facility prior to moving to a division level position.
