Dr. Ryan Cello is a Pharmacy Manager at UC Davis Health, specializing in automation, informatics, analytics, and diversion detection. He began his pharmacy career at UCDH in 2005 after graduating from UCSF pharmacy school, where he completed a PGY1 Acute Care Residency. Following completion of his PGY1, he accepted a position with UCDH working in the fields of pain management, pharmacy operations, OR pharmacy, and medication safety. In 2012, he moved into his current role overseeing pharmacy automation and technology and became a volunteer faculty member as an assistant professor with the UCSF School of Pharmacy.
Since taking his current, Dr. Cello has served as Pyxis administrator for UCDH’s 211 machines and liaison to the IT department. He has overseen multiple Pyxis upgrades and a refresh of all Pyxis hardware, as well as involvement with multiple Epic module implementations and upgrades. His role also includes involvement in the areas of pharmacy facility planning and drug diversion prevention and detection, where he helped with the selection and implementation of two AI-augmented drug diversion detection software solutions. He recently helped implement an enterprise-wide inventory management platform for the health system and stood up a analytics service line and data warehouse. Dr. Cello has been an active member of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Informatics and Technology, where he currently serves as the Director at Large.
