Student Pharmacist
West Virginia University
Michelle Grose is a third year pharmacy student at West Virginia University. Her interest in research started after she engaged in a project assessing medication utilization in Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) during her first year of pharmacy school. Since then, Michelle and her mentors have developed a project focused on selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) prescribing trends. This project uncovered a gap in patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) screening, which has given way to her current two projects focused on improving depression screening in patients with depression. Michelle is the president of the Industry Pharmacy Organization (IPhO) at WVU. She is currently mentoring a first year pharmacy student on data collection and translational pharmacy research. Additionally, Michelle is part of the area of emphasis in Translational Pharmacy Research through the school of pharmacy at WVU. She was recently recognized by the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education (AFPE) as one of the 29 college students in the country to receive an award for her research on depression. She recently completed the INTRO Summer Research Program through WVU. Her future plans include working in industry and continuing to engage in research.
