Mackenzie Nigro is a P4 student at the University of Rhode Island, working towards obtaining their doctorate of pharmacy in May of 2023. Mackenzie has a strong interest in ambulatory care, geriatrics, and cardiology/nephrology. She completed various research projects throughout her undergrad years at the University of Rhode Island working with different faculty members within the college. Some of her research includes studying fatty liver disease and the causes and effects of certain chemical compounds on the liver through mouse studies, the effect of fenofibrate on cholestasis and 3D molecular modeling. She was awarded the undergraduate research grant award twice for her research within the college. She was also an intern at Bristol-Myers Squibb working on drug discovery in the cardiovascular & fibrosis department looking at possible targets for drug treatments of heart failure.
Mackenzie is also very involved within the college of pharmacy. She was president of the Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a member of Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and the Rhode Island Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
