Karen Nagel Edwards is a Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Midwestern University College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove Campus. She received her PhD in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy from Purdue University. Current teaching responsibilities include required and elective courses in biotechnology, compounding, dosage form design, and history of pharmacy.
Nagel’s primary areas of research are herbal product analysis and pharmaceutical compounding. Secondary interests include biotechnology, dosage form design and educational research. She has contributed to several textbooks, review guides and encyclopedias.
Nagel has held leadership roles in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) within the Teachers of Pharmaceutics Section, Laboratory Special Interest Group, and Council of Sections. Nagel also had leadership roles in the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) within the Academy of Pharmaceutical Research & Science (APhA-APRS) Basic Sciences section, APRS Task Force on Biosimilars, and Awards, Education, and Policy committees, and the joint APhA-ARPS/AACP Task Force on Gender Equity. She was named as an APhA-APRS Fellow in 2019. She is also an active member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences and has served on the planning committee of the local chapter, the Chicagoland Pharmaceutics Discussion Group.. She has served as an abstract and grant reviewer and annual meeting session moderator for both AACP and APhA and has served on the National Association for Boards of Pharmacy Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Exam Review Committee.
