Making the Grade: Approaches to Drug Allergy Management

There is robust literature that demonstrates the role of the pharmacist in medication and allergy reconciliation processes. As the medication expert on the interprofessional team, pharmacists should possess the skills necessary to take drug allergy management to the next step. This may involve actively providing pharmacist-led skin testing services, development of procedures/protocols for desensitization efforts, and design of clinical decision support tools to streamline use in practice. Given patient-specific scenarios across adult and pediatric populations, faculty will address different approaches to allergy management and the applicability of each approach. Faculty will appraise the literature, presenting evidence demonstrating the benefits of these approaches on therapeutic decision-making and patient care outcomes. Attendees will be provided with patient cases, practice management scenarios, and knowledge checks throughout the presentation to ensure active engagement.
