Colonel Mike Heath served his country as a commissioned officer in the United States Army for 31 years, culminating in his final active-duty senior leadership position as Chief Pharmacist for the Army and the Pharmacy Consultant to the Army Surgeon General. He received a BS degree in Pre-Medicine from Clemson University, and his BS degree in Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, completed the MBA graduate program from Boston University, and he completed a post-graduate ASHP accredited Hospital Pharmacy (Pharmacy Practice) residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Denver, CO.
His awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (6 awards), Army Commendation Medal (5 awards) and the United States Army Medical Department Order of Military Medical Merit. He was the 2005 recipient of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Distinguished Federal Pharmacist Award. In October 2006, he was selected for the award as one of the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni of the year for 2006. He was selected as the 2006 recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Honorary Lifetime Membership Award. Mike and his wife, Dr. Janie Heath (Former Dean, University of Kentucky College of Nursing), now reside in Lexington, KY.
